Nigel qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1994 and as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 1998, with a particular focus on helping businesses claim Research & Development tax relief, in which he has over 16 years’ experience.

Nigel was recently nominated for Tolley’s Taxation, Tax Writer of the Year Award 2017.

Graeme Jarvie, CodeClan

Graeme Jarvie, CodeClan’s Employer Engagement Manager, has worked closely with organisations throughout Scotland to help them identify IT talent across multiple disciplines and at all levels. He has also built and developed his own teams so understands the challenges involved.

Jordan Maguire, Gizmo

After failing miserably at school, not qualifying for University and realising his dream of being a Cheesemonger on the Moon is currently unattainable, Jordan became a successful inventor and entrepreneur, here on Earth.

Jordan was in the Guinness Book of Records, as the youngest person to ever reach the North Pole. Luckily the cold weather did not damage too many of his brain cells and he has used his passion for new innovations to create many products and drive Gizmo’s design services to be used by global brands.

Gary Townley, Intellectual Property Office 

Gary has been working in the field of Intellectual Property for over 30 years and has been helping businesses to develop and protect their creativity using IP.

A member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and with diplomas in both Business and IP, Gary joined the Business Outreach and Education team in 1999 and regularly provides Intellectual Property training at workshops, seminars and conferences, and has edited the monthly IPO e-newsletter, IPInsight, for the last five years.

Dr Colin Gillespie, Jumping Rivers 

Colin is a consultant at Jumping Rivers and a Senior lecturer at Newcastle University, UK. He has provided data science advice to some of the largest (and smallest) companies in the world. Over the last year, he has presented at the Turing Institute in London, Cambridge University and Strata Data. He is the author of Efficient R programming, published by O’Reilly Media.

Colin’s research interests are high performance statistical computing and Bayesian statistics. He is regularly employed as a consultant by Jumping Rivers and has been teaching R since 2005 at a variety of levels, ranging from beginners to advanced programming.

Meena Murrin, Marks & Clerk

Meena advises on all aspects of trade mark clearance, protection, enforcement and strategic portfolio management.

Meena’s practice covers a range of sectors and she has particular expertise in relation to the drinks industry.

Meena is dual-qualified having practised as a solicitor specialising in intellectual property and corporate law prior to joining Marks & Clerk.

Mairi Rudkin, Marks & Clark

Mairi assists a wide range of clients, including large multinational companies and local universities. She advises on various patent matters, including prosecution strategy, infringement and validity and has assisted in Appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office.

Mairi specialises in the area of medicinal chemistry, medical devices and the use of chemicals in the oil and gas sector.

Euan Ferries, Martin & Aitken 

Euan has over 25 years corporate finance experience which includes advising clients on transactions such as acquisitions and disposals, due diligence and working with start-ups and growing businesses in areas such as business strategy and planning, sourcing growth finance and securing grant funding from both private and public sector funders.

Kimberley Goh, MMS 

Kimberley is a Corporate Associate at MMS.

She  has been advising on corporate and commercial law since qualification and has broad experience acting for clients in both the private and public sector, from family run businesses, SMEs, not-for-profit organisations and blue chip companies to major UK banks.

Ross Nicol, MMS 

Ross is a Partner in the IP and Technology Team at MMS. He advises clients on all facets of intellectual property and information technology matters, with a focus on the commercial arrangements that companies need to set up when creating and exploiting new technologies.

Anne Bashir, Murgitroyd

Anne has over 20 years of experience in Intellectual property, advising companies on all aspects of their IP – trade marks, copyright, design rights and passing off.

Today, Anne supports a diverse range of clients in a variety of fields. She works with professional institutes, finance companies, whisky makers and fashion designers and producers. Clients also work in entertainment, online gaming, online retailing, beauty, agriculture, water treatment, chemical processing and fish farming.

James Craven, PNO Consultants

Bill is an Innovation Specialist at Scottish Enterprise with 20 years’ experience in the electronics industry with IBM and Motorola, primarily on large-scale, industrial automation and control.

As part of his remit, Bill helps companies of all sizes to build and develop R&D and innovation projects which examine all major aspects of NPD to ensure successful completion and commercialisation.

Lesley Doyle, Scottish Enterprise 

Lesley is a Project Manager in the Workplace Innovation team within Scottish Enterprise and looks after the Workplace Innovation Fund.  The fund is aimed at SMEs who are projecting turnover growth of £200k+ over three years and currently have a Business Gateway Advisor.

The fund will support projects centred on at least two out of three themes: People – motivating staff beyond pay; Place – improving or maintaining a positive workplace culture and Practice – implementing fair, responsible and more productive work practices.

Nicky Hoey, Scottish Enterprise 

Nicky is a Workplace Innovation Specialist at Scottish Enterprise.

As part of her role, Nicky supports growing businesses to implement people-centred change including reviewing your business needs from organisational structures and culture, through to developing talent and building leadership capabilities.

Nicky holds a BSc Honours in Business Management; is an Associate member of the CIPD and brings over 20 years’ experience of working as an HR practitioner in public, voluntary and private sectors.

Thea Ni Lionnain, Scottish Enterprise

Thea is a qualified physiologist with a number of years of experience in working with university spin outs and commercialising research products into products and services.

Mary Kernohan, SnapDragon Monitoring 

Mary has over 20 years’ experience in generating sales, fundraising and brand development in both the private and voluntary sectors. As head of development for SnapDragon she works with SMEs to find solutions to tackle online sales of counterfeit goods using registered intellectual property.

Prior to joining SnapDragon, Mary worked at Totseat where she had first-hand experience of tackling IP infringements. Mary is passionate about her work and whilst she enjoys all aspects of what she does, her favourite stage of a project is knowing that an effective solution has been found in a cost-efficient way.

Lynn Wilson, Zero Waste Scotland

Lynn Wilson, Bachelor of Design (Hons) M.A.,FRSA, is the Sector Manager, Manufacturing at Zero Waste Scotland where she has been part of the Circular Economy team since 2013.

Lynn’s role is to support manufacturing SMEs in accelerating business growth through taking advantage of circular economy business models.
